BA (Hons) Printing Technology – AD230
Sarjana Muda Teknologi Percetakan (Kepujian) AD230
OVERVIEW
Malaysian printing industry is one of the oldest industries in Malaysia. All these
years, it has played a major role as the main media for education, communication
and dissemination of knowledge and information. The prospect in commercial
printing depends also on the demand for advertising and costs of business. Demand
for advertising depends on business activities. Other factors are costs of equipment,
labor, ink, paper and method to meet safety and environment standards. It is
expected that Malaysian printing and publishing business will continue its positive
growth as the nation aspires to be fully developed and industrialized by 2020. The
industry is constantly working to improve turnaround time, and many have invested in
state-of-the-art technology to provide in-house finishing and bindery services. Many
printers and publishers also stay abreast of new developments in the printing and
publishing technology and this has greatly increased efficiency and productivity, as
well as export competitiveness.
The printing industry as a whole has generally been undergoing enormous structural
and technological change for several years. Apart from the changes af- fecting the
traditional printing sector, the integration of new media (e.g., CD-ROMs, online
services) into existing product offers represents the greatest challenge to the printing
industry in the years to come.

through practically oriented training that enables the graduate to manage a company
in the communications industry. The courses is designed fundamentally encompass
a wide range of diverse company structures, production techniques, and product and

of available technologies, and being able empirically to assess them and the

Our External examiner reviews:
Prof. Alan Springet, London College of Communication, University of the Arts
London:
“As the communication industry is changing possibly the fastest pace ever, it is
imperative that courses of this nature remain flexible to the external environment
and in touch with what the student will require to understand upon completion of
this course. There is little substitute for the student to experience real life practical
industry situations. I therefore find that the course appeared to provide excellent
training as well as practical and academic material of a very high standard and i
was pleased with its execution. Since print courses in the UK are running out, it may
be an opportunity for this course to be marketed more internationally. This course
needs the ability to educate and teach students from all corners of the world. A more
holistic approach to the global printing industry may be more succinct to gain a more
cosmopolitan student audience. Hands-on training in handling (operating/running)
printing machines (conventional or digital output) as well as other equipments in the
print production processes is necessary. It is very important for the students to have
continuous exposure and intensive training in these activities in order for them to be
competent and competitive and achieving recognition from the related industries”
